In the bustling health sector of Melbourne, Purva Gulyani stands out as a beacon of resilience and innovation. As the founding director of Diet Yumm, she has transformed a single practice into a network of 15 thriving locations, but her journey to this point has been anything but straightforward.

“I knew I wanted to be a dietitian when I was in Year 11. I thought life would be a cakewalk, but reality struck, teaching me resilience,” she reflects. After beginning her career in 2005, Purva migrated to Australia in 2009, facing hurdles like clearing the DSR exam without much support from the fraternity. Despite these challenges, she persevered, establishing herself as a Bariatric Dietitian and later founding Diet Yummm, where she has served over 14,000 clients. Purva brings both expertise and empathy to the table, making her more than just a dietitian; she’s a health partner who genuinely cares.

Purva’s career spans private practice and clinical research, giving her a unique edge in understanding the intricate relationship between diet and disease. But what truly sets her apart is her personalised, evidence-based approach to health. Whether it’s chronic disease management, bariatric surgery support or helping fussy little eaters find their groove, Purva’s mission remains crystal clear: to help her clients achieve their nutritional goals with strategies that are as sustainable as they are effective.

“Nutrition isn’t one-size-fits-all,” Purva says. “It’s about meeting people where they are and guiding them with practical, evidence-based advice that fits their lifestyle.”

Her practice, DIETYUMM, is more than just a clever name—it’s a philosophy. Purva believes food should be enjoyable, not just functional. This belief shines through in her approach to weight management, where she emphasises holistic well-being over quick fixes. For Purva, health isn’t just about numbers on a scale; it’s about nourishing the body, mind, and soul.

Purva’s expertise is as diverse as the communities she serves. Fluent in English, Hindi, and Punjabi, she connects with clients from varied cultural backgrounds, ensuring that language and cultural nuances never become barriers to better health. From diabetes management and eating disorders to guiding children with food intolerances, her skill set is comprehensive and compassionate.

Her current pursuit? Working on her PhD focused on developing a culturally inclusive nutrition assessment tool for South Asian communities. “South Asians have a higher risk of chronic diseases. My goal is to create an evidence-based tool that truly represents our diverse dietary habits,” Purva shares.

When she’s not transforming lives through nutrition, Purva is a devoted mum (to both human and fur babies), a nature lover and a foodie at heart. “I love food,” she laughs.

Consulting at her Werribee clinic every Thursday, Purva offers appointments without the need for referrals, making her services easily accessible to those ready to embark on their health journey. Her out-of-pocket fees reflect the value of personalised care tailored to individual needs.
